Whiskey Cake, Plano
I’m in Dallas for a few days and was lucky enough to be introduced to Whiskey Cake this weekend. This place is not to be missed when in Big D. Sean Conner, the Bar Manager at Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar, won the Dallas finals of the 2011 Nation’s Most Inspired Bartender Search presented by GQ magazine and Bombay Sapphire…and that is easy to believe after having one delicious sip of Tracy’s Garden below which was a refreshing mix of gin, cucumber, fresh basil and lime! Then I had the fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, and oh-my…warm tx goat cheese fondue! I can’t even explain the decadence of this “snack” as they call it. For my entree, Chicken & Cheese Melt with rotisserie chicken, pesto mayonnaise, avocado, blt, and havarti on sourdough. Of course, for dessert we had to try the Whiskey Cake which had a sweet, sugar crust and fresh dollop of whipped cream to end the meal perfectly. I can’t wait to head back to this spot on my next trip when I’ll be trying the cocktails Wabbit Smash (gin, carrot, mint, honey, lemon, ginger) and Bee Sting (tequila, jalepeño, grapefruit, lime, agave, countreau), both which were big hits at our table!
I am loving our new Handbag Dust Covers that just arrived from Bagadocious! I spend enough time selecting the perfect handbags, and definitely enough money on them, so you bet I’m taking good care of them once they’re mine. At Arrive Chic, you’ll find three different styles of handbag dust covers: the envelope handbag dust cover with a custom photo of your very own bag, the drawstring handbag dust cover with custom photo of your very own bag, or the drawstring handbag dust cover with quote, “Behind every successful woman is a fabulous handbag.” All three protect your bag safely from heat, air, light, and dust…and if you haven’t noticed, they’re pretty darn cute. These are the perfect way to protect your bag in your suitcase while traveling and store in your closet in between adventures. What I’m especially loving? That my custom photo dust covers instantly organize me and are a time saver when trying to find that one bag among the sea of accessories in my closet. Get your own here!
Yesterday, I had lunch with an old friend I hadn’t seen in several years. We laughed like we had seen each other last week which, to me, is a clear sign of true friendship. We met at Joey’s Wynwood which is a favorite of mine in Miami. Here there are so many amazing pie combos to chose from so we treated ourselves to two. One was the Parma e Funghi, with Pomodoro, Mozzarella, Prosciutto Crudo & Mushrooms which was excellent. But the Dolce e Piccante with Figs, Gorgonzola Cheese, Honey & Hot Peppers was the clear winner in my book and probably the sweetest and richest of their pies. Just my style. If you’re going off the diet, indulge. Mmm, my mouth just watered again. These leftovers, I actually wanted to take home. Don’t miss Joey’s when in Miami which was named “Best Pizza in Miami” by Haute Living.
We are loving Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent travel style in Mallorca, Spain. She was smart sticking with one interchangeable color palette of grey and white, choosing lightweight fabrics for hot summer days, and comfortable, neutral flats and flips. The best part? That fabulous red, studded Valentino bag on her arm for a pop of color.
Travel Tip: Just sit down and eat.
We recently traveled to Houston (really, Sugar Land) with our two little boys and at the end of a long, busy day, nothing sounded better than getting everyone back to the hotel room to crash. But, we all still had to eat. Our solution? Grabbing take-out from the nearby restaurant that looked oh-so-good (Lasagna House) and bringing it back to the room. But we quickly learned that unless you have a large suite with a dining table and kitchen, this is no way to dine. A typical hotel room just doesn’t have the extra space for feeding a family of four comfortably. Half of us were on the bed, the other half sharing the desk chair with our meal spread out all over the crowded desk…and dessert? Well, by then the kids were passed out so my husband and I practically ate it in the dark. The food was delicious but we were beyond frustrated while we were eating. So, when you are staying in a standard hotel room, just say no to take-out. Just take the extra few minutes to sit down at the restaurant and eat. You’ll be much more comfortable and have zero mess to deal with afterwards.
