Shoshanna Caitlin Combo Dress at Shopbop

When seeing the sights, think day dress! It’s always better to be over dressed than under dressed…and really, is there anything more comfortable? It will keep you cool while running around town, is nice enough for an elegant lunch and can carry you straight through dinner. Besides, it takes up less space in your suitcase leaving more room for treasures you find along the way. Here are a few dresses we’re loving for Fall & Resort/Holiday…

Cushion-Cut Framed Earrings by Adriana Orsini

Leave the valuable, flashy jewelry at home and take the faux kind with you. Nothing would ruin your fabulous vacation faster than losing your beautiful engagement ring or wedding band. Besides, how much fun would it be to sport that huge rock that you always dreamed of without worrying about it getting swiped? Costume jewelry is also perfect when traveling to weddings and for black tie night on your next cruise. Here are some pieces we’re loving and packing on our next trip.

Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht opening this October

Dying to staying at that new, trendy hotel but it’s booked?  To cover yourself, first book another hotel (that’s almost as fabulous) that you can cancel.  Check with a travel agent or online reservation websites, such as Expedia.com and Travelocity.com, as they are often sold blocks of rooms by many hotels. You can also call the hotel’s local number (not the 800 number) as they are first to know of cancellations and room availability. Often times popular hotels will have a waiting list too so be sure to ask the reservationist or manager about it. Still no luck? Join the hotel’s rewards program and call back closer to your travel date to see what they can do for you…and don’t forget, once you do get the hotel you want, cancel your back up accommodations!

"Bonjour" Cards by Rifle Paper Co.

Bring your own stationery to send from each city you visit. It’s much more fun for people to receive something mailed from a far off land than sent via email. Enclosed cards keep your message private and are usually a lot better looking than touristy postcards. We love these “Bonjour” Cards by Rifle Paper Co. for our next trip to France. Either bring stamps with you or, if abroad, go to the post office and get a book of stamps on Day 1. This way you can just hand them to the concierge or pop them in a mailbox along your travels each morning.
