Crandon Park Beach, Key Biscayne

Crandon Park Beach, Key Biscayne

What a beautiful day in the neighborhood yesterday…and by neighborhood I mean Key Biscayne. It’s funny, or maybe sad, that the incredible attractions of South Florida aren’t often taken advantage of by those who actually live in Miami year round. I’m definitely guilty of getting wrapped up in a busy go-go-go life so much that months will go by without putting my toes in the sand…and that’s unacceptable. I mean, people travel around the world to step foot on these shores. So, I literally blocked out a day in my planner weeks out and scheduled nothing else but “BEACH”. When I woke up yesterday and it was 57 degrees, I almost canned it…and to be honest, was pissed. Seriously? I mean really. Our one beach day in forever? Then I told my three boys to grab their hoodies because nothing was keeping us from this day in the sand. Thank god we didn’t abort mission because I can’t remember the last day that Miami was this gorgeous. Those hoodies never saw the light of day. Just see for yourself…

It was PERFECT! We headed to Key Biscayne to mix it up a bit since South Beach can get a little repetitive, even if we mostly see it after dark. Plus, we wanted to head out there now before the masses invade for the Sony Open Tennis Tournament starting March 17th through the 30th. That mind-blowing traffic is only tolerable if we’re headed to the Sony Open too. Oh, and, by the way, there’s currently a mess of construction on the Key Biscayne Rickenbacker so good luck tennis fans. Lucky for us, those masses were at Cadillac Championship at The Trump National Doral and the Sprung! Spring Beer Festival in Coconut Grove across town today. So Crandon Park Beach was all ours…and breathtaking. A tip? Be sure to stop by the ATM on the way out to Crandon. It’s cash only for all of the vendors in the park including ice cream and carousel rides – must-haves with my two tots. So get out there, Miami, and don’t forget to enjoy what’s ours…even if you have to schedule it weeks out or grab something to keep warm this time of year. This city is worth the planning and you know it will be smokin’ hot by 11 a.m. anyway.
