Travel Tip: Call when you’ve arrived
When my mother first told me, I believe in college, to call her when I landed and then she’d leave the house and head to the airport to pick me up, I was almost offended. You’re not going to be standing by the terminal entrance with a big bouquet of flowers when I arrive? Uh, yeah. Ever pick someone up at the airport? Ugh, what a pain…the endless circling around “Arrivals” or sitting in the cell phone lot…waiting…and then waiting some more. And god help you if the flight is delayed, especially with a tired toddler in the back seat.
If someone’s picking you up at the airport, tell them not to leave their house (assuming they’re not over an hour away) until you call them once you’ve landed. Then, as soon as you touch down and that flight attendant gives you the green light on cell phones, dial those digits. We all know that it takes at least a good 10 minutes to taxi and that your luggage is never awaiting you when you arrive at the baggage claim. So, save your ride the hassle of waiting around for you and save yourself the hustle through the terminal. Everyone will be a lot happier to see each other when they meet…and with a few extra minutes, you’ll have the chance to touch up your make-up in the bathroom so you’ll look good as you did during take-off.
