We’ve all heard the “8 x 8 rule” (drink eight 8 oz glasses a day) but how many of us really follow it? Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired and on long flights, it’s pretty much guaranteed. This is because the air in the airline cabin is so much dryer than air we normally breathe. We are used to at least 50% humidity on the ground. But in the tight cabin quarters mid-air it can fall to as low as 1% humidity on longer flights. To help prevent dehydration, start drinking more water (think 64 oz.) the day before your flight. This will prepare your body for what you’ll be breathing the next day. Also, to maintain hydration on board, keep chugging that agua & save the cocktails and coffee for your final destination. Besides, all that water will only help flush out any germs you may pick up along the way. To protect your skin, bring a facial atomizer along for the ride. It keeps skin from drying out, relaxes, refreshes, and even sets your make-up. We love the Evian Facial Spray Trio and we know after one spritz, you will too. So, water up and you’ll feel good as new as you touch down.
Travel Tip: Guard Your Tootsies
The TSA is making life a little easier in the security line at 34 airports now with the PreCheck program…no removing liquids, laptops, and, most importantly, shoes. But at the moment, this is only for high-mileage frequent fliers or “elite” travelers. So unfortunately, that leaves a lot of us stuck in the slow lane…one that sees way too many bare feet for our taste. Shiver. Guard yourself, or should we say your tootsies, from who knows what on that floor. If you’re wearing a boot or sneaks, you’re all set with your socks though you might want to burn them upon arrival. If you’re donning flats or heels, we suggest wearing sock liners at least until you’re through security. We know, most of these ped-like socks don’t look so fab as they stick out of a lot of shoes. But we’re liking Hue’s Hidden Cotton Liners as they account for those who show a little toe cleavage now and again and do a good job of staying hidden. Besides, let’s get real. Isn’t it better to be seen with a little bit of sock hanging out than your bare feet on that carpet? Disgusting. There’s not enough sanitizer in the world… Still not sold? That’s fine, bring your regular white sport socks to throw on. Just remember, whatever you wear, turn them inside out or stuff them in a plastic bag before tossing them back in your tote.
Travel Tip: Carry a wrap
Always carry a wrap (or large scarf) with you when traveling. How many flights have you been on where the temperature is just right? No one wants to resort to those nasty plane blankets. Ick. It will also come in handy when you remember (last minute) that you can’t bare those shoulders in that European church. Find a wrap that’s not too thick (like a pashmina) and it will roll up into your bag easily. You’ll forget about it until you really need it and when you do…heaven sent!
Travel Tip: Luggage Tags
If you don’t have them already, get luggage tags…substantial ones that will last, not the flimsy paper airline tags. If your bag gets lost, having a luggage tag with your contact info is your only chance of the bag being returned to you. Those paper tags can easily come off, rip, or become unreadable if they get wet. Then, the whole bag is good as gone. Find these stunning python embossed Italian leather luggage tags and others by Graphic Image at Arrive Chic now!
We are loving every piece we received from the Felix Rey Spring Collection, but there is no question what our favorite is…the Serpentine Minaudière II clutch. Everyone needs a great black clutch and this gorgeous, classic style is perfect whether your evening attire includes a slick pair of jeans or a cocktail dress. It’s small frame, measuring 6½”W x 3¼”H x 1½D”, looks elegant yet is still roomy enough to hold the necessities, like a cell phone. Once again, Felix Rey has produced a sleek piece without forgetting the interesting twist – the bold crystal closure. Grab yours now at Arrive Chic …and a tip, if you’re packing it for your next trip, stuff this hard-sided bag with your socks or lingerie to save room.
Travel Tip: Find a great travel advisor
Find a great travel advisor and every vacation will be unforgettable. As Matthew Upchurch, CEO of Virtuoso Travel Network, recently said on the Today Show, “How is it that we actually have financial advisors to manage money but we actually don’t have somebody in our lives to help us manage our most valuable thing? Our free time and our time with our loved ones?”
Before your next trip, ask friends and family (the ones who travel in the same style you do) if they have an amazing travel advisor they would suggest. Then once you have a list of a few, start interviewing them to see who you like best, who listens the best, and who is part of a network of advisors and therefore has access to other advisors’ expertise. Having a travel advisor guide you on where to stay, eat, and what to do in each city will only increase your chances of experiencing the best of the best…and in case you have an emergency and need to get home ASAP, they’ll help you with that too.
